About us

Who are we?

Derby Triathlon Club (DTC) was formed in 1985, our aim is to provide a fun and friendly environment for you to pursue your multisport ambition. Our focus is on developing your three disciplines, regardless of age, level of fitness or current ability.

DTC now has a membership of around 200, comprised of both senior and junior triathletes.

We provide coaching in all four of triathlons disciplines (including transition).

We hold both regular sessions (weekly) and other sessions on a more ad-hoc basis.

We use several venues in and around the city of Derby for our training sessions.

Since Joining DTC in 2012 I have had various roles on and off the committee. These include Co-Chair, Chair, Vice-Chair, Junior Point of Contact, Equipment officer, Webmaster.

I have competed at all distances of triathlon from super-sprint to Ironman. I qualified for 2020 ETU Triathlon Championships at middle (half-Ironman) distance, although I finally competed in the race in 2022 due to the pandemic! Due to an knee injury I competed in the Aqua-Bike race, this race was held in Bilbao, Northern Spain. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, even though the swim was hard as I did an extra 400m or so!!

I have been interested in Triathlon for the last 15 years. Really as a transition from teams sports such as Rugby and Football and I got older.
I’ve entered many Triathlons in all distances but for my favorite races I always have to come back to the Derby Tri Club Summer series. Where I started my Triathlon journey, where I always still come towards the back! And where we always go to the pub for a beer and fish & chips afterwards.

I joined the club in Jan 2011 but it took me until 2015 to enter my first triathlon. I kept to myself at swim sessions, and it was taking part in the parkrun league that pulled me into meeting other members, joining other club sessions, gaining PB’s and the beginning of my DTC volunteering. I’ve since completed sprint, Olympic, and middle (half-ironman) distance triathlons on the back of the sessions led by our fantastic coaches. I admit, personally, I’m here for the conviviality, challenge, coffee & cake! The club is very much open to, and supportive of, all. If it seems a little daunting to you, or you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

I have been a member of Derby Tri for many years. I started off as a junior attending the Thursday summer training then junior’s track over winter, lapping my mum on the adult’s session.

I now race side-by-side my fellow club member friends, who have helped support me and given me some amazing training sessions!

I regularly take part in the Track, Summer Series and Time Trial sessions, however I plan to get more into my training this year ahead of RideLondon in May! Bring on the Summer!
