Cricket has been played at Wormsley since the ground was established by Sir Paul Getty in 1992. Over the last 26 years, Wormsley has established a reputation as one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the World. Every cricketer - from the best players in the world to the recreational cricketer - aspires to have the opportunity to play at Wormsley.
The Ground was officially opened on Sunday 24th May 1992 by Bob Wyatt (England Captain - 40 caps) who rang the Wormsley Bell and Fred Trueman (67 England caps) who raised the Wormsley Flag. The Sir Paul Getty XI played host to the MCC, watched by Her Majesty The Queen Mother and the then Prime Minister, Sir John Major.
To this day, the Sir Paul Getty XI continues to be a cornerstone of cricket at Wormsley with annual matches against the Eton Ramblers, Jim Swanton’s side, the Arabs and I Zingari - teams steeped in history and tradition and close to the heart of Sir Paul. In 2018, we were delighted to host our first Sir Paul Getty Women's XI, captained by Charlotte Edwards, versus the FairBreak International XI, as part of a broader Day of Gender Equality.
