Steeple Chasers Running and Cycling Club

A club providing running, cycling and swimming opportunities to the local community of varying abilities, which they can pursue for fitness, competitive and / or social purposes within a supportive, friendly atmosphere and where encouragement is given to participate in organised local events.

About us

We know that the thought of joining  a running club can sometimes feel a little intimidating. That's why at Steeple Chasers Running & Cycling Club we first and foremost want runners to have fun. Whether running, cycling or swimming with us, we want you to enjoy it and be able to meet other like-minded people along the way.

We cater for all abilities and regularly run a Couch to 5k course for beginners, whilst also running other events to encourage more experienced runners to take part. Whether you want to enter events or not, the important thing for us is that you find encouragement here at the club for your own goals, whatever they may be.

We have a number of membership options with discounts for joint memberships or if this is your second club.

We're an affiliated British Triathlon Club and our coaches and leaders are trained and certified by British Triathlon.

Our activities

We offer a fun, friendly programme of group runs and rides with all paces catered for.

These are available for all club members. We find that group activities are a great way to get moving, build confidence, and provide motivation and enjoyment.

All activities are on our programme calendar and can be booked directly in the SportMember app. Where members are required to pay a fee (to cover additional costs) this will be stated under the course description. Otherwise all training is free for members. There may be limited places available depending on the number of Club Leaders available to facilitate.

The club has a British Triathlon Qualified Group Coach and six Qualified Club Leaders who facilitate the run and cycle programme, ensuring that safe, paced and enjoyable runs are available. Leaders offer a warm up and cool down at each session, to help to prevent injury, but do not provide coaching.

What to expect

Your Club Leader will brief everyone and lead a warm up. We may be running at different paces, so faster runners may be asked to loop back.

We ask that you:

  • Be courteous to members of the public when running in a group
  • When running on the roads run towards the traffic
  • Please be considerate to pedestrians and car drivers, thank them for letting you pass or stopping to let you cross
  • Communicate with each other, ensuring you call out any hazards
  • Take care when crossing roads, do not just follow the group
