About Woking Cougars FC

Woking Cougars Football Club was formed in 1991 and is based in and around the Woking, Surrey area.

One of the largest grassroots clubs in the south-east of England, the club was formed to provide children from the local community with access to grassroots football.

Today the club has over 500 members from age 4 to 18 years, training and participating in football matches almost every week between September and May.

The club is formed as a registered charity in the UK and is run by the Trustees, Club Committee and members of the Club Management Team on a voluntary basis.  The Clubs’ coaches are also volunteers and all undergo the required Enhanced DBS checks and hold the Safeguarding Children in Football Certification and are First Aid in Football trained.

The Club is a Two-Star FA Accredited Club meaning every team in every age group has at least one FA Introduction to Coaching Football / Fa Level 1 or Level 2 in Coaching Football qualified coach, and the teams are open to boys and girls on a mixed gender basis.

I would also encourage you to take some time to review the additional information shared throughout this website, as we trust that it will provide some invaluable guidance regarding the organisation and philosophy at Woking Cougars FC.

Club History

Woking Cougars F.C began in 1991 as one team on St Johns Lye. From those early beginnings we are very proud to now provide football to over 500 boys and girls aged from to u18.  Due to the number of teams at the Club we train and play at various locations across the Woking area, with all teams training on all-weather pitches Our teams represent the club across the Surrey Youth League, Surrey Primary League and South Surrey Youth League, where appropriate challenges exist to develop our players and encourage their love of the game.

Our Vision

Our club vision is simple:

  • We want to inspire children to be confident, respectful players who aspire to reach their best potential in football while learning some positive life skills.

  • We want to improve players’ individual skills but teach them to recognise that they are working as part of a team and that collectively we are stronger and more effective together.

  • We want supporters and coaches to work together for the benefit of each player, where coaches coach, supporters support, and players play football in a positive, fun but appropriately challenging environment

To achieve this, we have developed the Woking Cougars Way. Its three pillars are:

How we Play

At all times we try our best to be confident with and without the ball, trying to play a high tempo, passing style of football.

How we Coach

Provide a training environment that focuses on maximising ball touches in game-related situations. Be encouraging and supportive while allowing players to develop and learn from their mistakes.

How we Support

Parents and supporters should seek to reassure, praise, and build confidence in players through positive experience.  Coaching them or any kind of aggressive or negative behaviour is strictly forbidden.

We look to align with the England DNA methodology that has been created to develop players in line with the way the modern game is played.
